How revolutionary is Vetements really?

Allgemein

We had seen it before, kind of. Not the very chic, high-fashion, embroidery-filled, pailletes-full gowns. But the cool guys between all the high fashion brands. First Acne comes to mind, maybe 3.1. Phillip Lim, Jil Sander, Balenciaga and so on. There were a few brands, where one used to think that they will kind of change the fashion game.  But Vetements changed it totally.  Making new jeans out of old ones might not be a new idea, but how come paying 1k for jeans is ok or even a good idea?

I truly have to say that i have no true explanation.
It just might be an image created by the designers. It is like a joke. It all started with the famous DHL Shirt, does anyone remember?
It was like making jokes about serious brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Co., who’s famous status symbol is there Logo. Maybe it was even meant critically, concerning the crazy going hype with all the logos on bags, shoes and clothing. The best example is their sweater. Still they have the same price tags on.
Anyway.
I personally think that it just fits perfectly in the ongoing hype of the 80’s and 90’s
which is accompanied by the very youthful and gothic-like looks, especially by using german words like „Polizei“,  celebrating being different. So it definitely is not revolutionary, but still gives enough fresh air to this whole circus.
